Chapter 19

The trip was almost over. Zim and Dib were so close to earth they could see it outside the ship's window.

Dib pressed his face to the glass. "I'm so excited! Finally, two months of flying in space are practically over! What? Zim?" he looked behind him at the alien who was pouting in the pilot's chair.

Zim continued to sulk, arms crossed. Ignoring the boy, he huffed and glanced out the window at the planet they were nearing.

Dib walked over to the other and kneeled so they were eye level, forcing the other to lock eyes with him. "Tell me what's up or I'll..." He tried to think of something. "Do....something you won't like!"

Zim rolled his eyes and huffed again, ignoring the humun's silly attempt.

"Fine," Dib spoke, straightening up. "I guess I'll just kill myself then." He looked around the ship for something sharp. Deciding to use a random hammer, he picked it up and moved it near his head. Obviously, this was a tactic to get Zim to speak, and sure enough the alien grabbed the hammer, ripping it out of the boy's hand.

"Don't do it!" Zim wailed, tossing the hammer aside and hugging the other close. He began to sob, but he fell silent when Dib patted his head.

"You're really cute, Zim, y'know that?" He broke out of their embrace and placed a kiss on the other's forehead. "So cute." He pressed a kiss where the alien's nose would have been. "So very cute." Finished, he placed a kiss on Zim's lips and pulled away, walking back to the window to gaze out at earth.

Sighing, Zim spoke up, "Alright I'll tell you! My Tallest must you be so persistent?!" He skipped over to the boy and bonked Dib on the head with his fist. "Listen up 'cause I'll only say this once. Ready?" he asked. Dib nodded and so Zim began, "Well. When we get back there, Blaire is gonna like birth that smeet of yours, and like, then you're gonna leave me... You'd need to 'cause you wouldn't want anything to do with me after your precious mini-humun is taken by me." Finished, he sighed and got out of his chair, about to walk away when Dib began to speak, anger in his voice.

"You really think that I'm going to leave you? Do you seriously think that that's how our relationship works?! Zim, I can't even believe what you just said!" Dib grabbed the other from behind, spinning the alien around and gripping his shoulder's painfully. "If you still think that I'm going to get back with Blaire, you don't know me at all! The only reason that I went with Blaire was because I had liked her when I was younger, and also because I was afraid of being labeled gay! But when I'm with you, Zim," he loosened the tension in his hands, then pulled the other in for a semi-hug, his arms resting on the alien's shoulders, their foreheads touching. "When I'm with you I don't care what people say, or think. All I care about is that I'm with you and that we share the strong love that we do." He pulled the other in for a kiss, then broke it apart to hear what Zim had to say.

The Irken paused, thinking over what to tell the boy. "Zim remembers when he was terrified to admit his feelings for you because he thought you would reject him. Well, you did, but Zim still loved you, even though he believed you didn't. I learned something," he spoke, suddenly changing back to using 'I'. "I learned that I love love. Does that make sense?"

Dib laughed at the question, and answered, "It makes sense. I love love too. But do you want to know something that I love more than love?" he asked, smiling.

Zim, smiled as well, the other's expression contagious. "What?"

Dib moved his hands to hold Zim's in between the two. "You." Still holding the alien's hands, he lowered himself to stand on one knee, and cleared his throat. "Zim, I've known you for eight years. Granted, I hated you for most of them, but that doesn't matter anymore. All that matters is that I get to spend the rest of my days with you." He paused. "Zim? I need to tell you something." He reached into the bag of stuff he'd packed for the trip and pulled out the ring originally bought for Blaire. He held it out to the other and explained, "I brought his ring with me to finish by carving Blaire's name in it, and only after I had finished it did I realize that instead of Blaire's name, I had inscribed yours. He turned the ring and the name 'Zim' gleamed in the light. "Will you make me the happiest guy in all of space and marry me?"

Zim had been watching the display with an amount of joy so great no Irken number could measure it. When the other asked his question, Zim, teary-eyed, answered, "Of course!" He let Dib slide the ring onto his finger, his smile broadening. When Dib had stood up again, he hugged the boy, eh hem, man, and kissed him passionately. They parted their lips and Zim gazed happily at his ring while Dib kept one arm wrapped around the alien, overjoyed.

So I suppose you all are expecting that the story is now over, and that they will live "Happily ever after". Not so fast! They still need to confront Blaire and officially get married and such. So! While they whole of you are moaning, or begging for the rest of the chapters to be all sex, sex, sex (I'm sorry, that's not going to be the case), I will be narrating. Thanks. Go read the paragraphs under this, and have fun! Why are you still reading this paragraph? I told you to read the NEXT paragraph, not this one. Oh my god, SECURITY!

Luke glanced over the suicide note again, and, finished, folded it and placed it in his pocket. He then headed out of Zim's house and back to Dib's. He knocked on the door and Membrane answered again, looking puzzled as to why the young man had reappeared.

"You get lost?" the professor asked, confused.

Luke shook his head and withdrew the note. He unfolded it and handed it to the man, asking, "Have you seen this letter before? I found it in the alie—eh hem, your son's friend's house. He purposefully left out the part with the unicorns and fridge.

Membrane read the paper, not believing what he was seeing. "Is this....for real?" he asked, heartbroken.

"I'm pretty sure. Do you recognize it?" Luke shifted his weight onto the other leg, wishing to be led inside; it was hot out.

Professor Membrane stumbled, then fell to his knees. "So she left because she was going to let herself be killed to save us. She....saved us. I can't believe...." He read over the note again. "She still loved them, the kids. She still loved me. I thought that she deserted us." He closed his eyes and they remained shut for an elongated moment. "I didn't even know she was actually dead...." He finally opened his eyes and stood up. "Thanks for showing me this," he told Luke, then walked back inside and closed the door. He roamed the house, searching for his daughter. "Gaz, I need to show you something...."

The "day" I got engaged to Zim/idk/?

'I'm engaged! I love you, notebook, you helped me throughout this whole ordeal! HaHAhahaHa!! I'm getting MARRIED! Holy shit I'm so happy!'

'I'm going to look out the window again and I'll tell you how much closer we seem to have traveled to earth.'

       ...

'We're getting there! I'm so excited! I'm going to invite Michael, and Jordan, and Ms. Julie! Wait..should I invite Michael? Last time I saw him I yelled in his face... What the hell I'll invite him anyways, it's never to late to apologize!'

'I'm gonna be married! Holy crap!'

'Speaking of crap, I think it's time I talk to Gir about what he's making for us to eat.'

'I wonder....should we all play another game of continental rummy? It's very addicting!'

   'Ow my head...'

Dib closed the notebook and opened and closed his eyes several times, trying to focus hisself. Unable to see clearly, he tried to call over to Zim but no sound would come out of his mouth. He toppled over, falling on the metal floor and panting. He blinked once, then closed his eyes, falling unconscious.

When Dib woke up, he found he was laying on a bed. But not just any bed, it was his bed. He was home! Overjoyed, he sat up too fast and his head went fuzzy. Even though the feeling was painful, he forced himself to take a look around the familiar room. His computers, spell drives, posters of aliens and Bigfoot, and so many schematics of Irkens and their machinery, were all still there. He took in a long breath, smells of happiness and at the same time sadness flooding into him. He ignored the throbbing in his head and threw his legs over the side and stood up. He took a few wobbly steps towards the door and stumbled, but continued along. It was strange, he hadn't experienced dizziness like this in a really long time. Once again tying to forget about it, he opened the door and headed into the living room. To his surprise, Blaire was sitting on the couch holding none other than a baby. A normal generic baby just like any other! No antennae or green skin or crimson eyes. Frankfurt had his arm around Blaire, and he smiled at her and placed a kiss on her cheek, then a kiss on the baby's nose. Wait a minute... "Blaire? What is Frankfurt doing here?"

At the sound of Dib's voice, both Frankfurt and Blaire looked up, not having noticed him before.

Blaire smiled guiltily and spoke up, "It's my fault, Dib, don't blame yourself."

"What? What are you talking about?!" Dib demanded, becoming annoyed that he hadn't a clue what was happening.

Blaire spoke up again, "You ran away because you found out that the baby was Frankfurt and I's. And also because we're back together. I realized that Frankfurt is my true love," she said, and kissed the "true love" beside her.

"WHAT?! YOU AND HIM?!" Dib yelled, stomping forward and glaring at them, but mostly at Frankfurt.

Both Blaire and Frankfurt put a finger to their lips to tell the loud teen to shush and not wake up their sleeping baby.

"I'm sorry, man, I thought you knew," Frankfurt apologized, extending a hand and asking, "We cool?"

'We cool?'?! Really?! Dib took in a deep breath and tried to relax and calm down. "Okay." He blinked a couple times. "So you cheated on me and now the baby is both of yours? I can handle that."

"You can?" the two asked, surprised, in unison.

"Yes. And I have a confession to make to you as well." Dib cleared his throat and spoke, "I'm gay. With Zim. And we're getting married."

Both Blaire and Frankfurt's eyes widened as much as they could, and they were speechless.

Dib, deciding he had gotten his bitter-sweet revenge (although he hadn't a clue how that would be "revenge"), walked through the living room and entered the kitchen. Finding it empty, he decided to enter his dad's lab. If he told Blaire and Frankfurt without hesitation, telling his father would be easy. He opened the door and instantly spotted his father, no goggles, sitting in a chair, sipping from a water bottle. "Hey, Dad!" he called, heading in his direction. He sat in the chair opposite the professor and intertwined his fingers.

Membrane, overjoyed to see his son walking around, exclaimed, "I'm so glad you're awake! Why, you've been passed out in that bed for a month now!" He watched as his son sat down.

Dib, shocked he had been unconscious so long, reached a hand up to feel his hair. Combined with two months-in-space dirt and terrible bed head, it felt disgusting! He quickly removed his hand and wiped it on his shirt, then spoke, "Dad, I need to tell you something. Something that I've been hiding from you for about a year. I'm—"

"No need, Dib. I already know." Membrane interrupted.

Dib raised an eyebrow. "You do?" he asked.

The scientist nodded and spoke, "You're obviously in love, and I'm not going to stop anything that you choose."

Dib thought a moment about how the sentence was worded. It seemed almost as if he was talking about something else. "So....you're fine that I'm gay?" he asked.

Membrane nodded. "Why yes, of cou—WHAT?! GAY?! MY SON IS GAY?! HOLY SHIIIIIIIIT!" He stood up and paced around the room.

Perhaps he didn't know. "Dad, calm down! It's normal and there's nothing I can do! Even if I could I wouldn't, and if you won't accept it then that's your own problem." He turned to walk away when his father placed a hand on his shoulder.

"I knew you were gay," he admitted, then laughed at the cruel joke. "Zim stopped by and told me what happened and such, then personally asked me to do that as a favor in return for keeping you safe. He's such a jokester! Haha." He patted his son on the back. "You know I would support and love you know matter what, son. So when's the wedding?"

Dib didn't know what was more surprising: the fact that his father seemed cool with him being gay, or the fact that he hadn't even considered thinking about weddings. "What? Oh um...I didn't think about that. We just got back after all."

Membrane shook his head. "Well that doesn't mean you couldn't have planned it, spending a whole two months as animal volunteers in Africa and all."

"Volunteers? What are you—ohhhhh. Yeah, it was fun," he lied, deciding he would thank Zim for coming up for a story, even though the idea of the two of them volunteering in Africa was outrageously impossible. "We were so busy helping injured animals that we couldn't be selfish and think about ourselves. By the way, where is Zim?"

The scientist ignored the current question and got serious. "Son, I need to show you something that Luke found in Zim's house." He pulled the suicide note from his pocket and placed it on the table.

   "Luke? That bastard—"

"DIB! YOU DO NOT SWEAR IN THIS HOUSE!" Membrane bellowed, then quickly cleared his throat. "Excuse me. Don't swear, please. Luke is a really nice guy, and besides, this note was written by your mother," he explained, turning the letter so it faced Dib.

Dib hesitated, unsure if he should read the note. If this was indeed the suicide letter, he would have to read it. He slid the note closer to himself and began reading:

    Dear husband and children,

If you're reading this, it means that I have passed on, and by my own accord. I assure you, this was my own choice. Dib? I love you no matter what, don't tell yourself this is your fault, because I know you can get like that sometimes. Gaz? Mommy loves you, sweetie, and I leave you hoping you will make friends and someday fall in love and get married. Honey? I love you dear, but I just can't live when I know of I do then my family will die. Dib, keep exploring paranormal beings, it always made me laugh when I saw you with your nose stuck in the lens of a magnifying glass. Gaz? Keep playing that GameSlave of yours, and when you win, tell me, okay? I'm always listening.

    P.S.

The blood needed for all of your operations was taken from me by the hospital (which I will not name) and delivered to the hospital for the operations. They have carried me to the crematorium and my initials are to be inscribed on that tree at the park where we always had picnics. I asked them to never give out the information that I deliberately let myself die to save you all and I hope you respect them and don't pester them for questions.

Hope the operations go well! I love you all!

      -Michaela

Dib swallowed his tears and read the note over again. His mom really let herself die to save them? Finished, he folded the note and slid it to his father. "Is this for real?" he asked his dad, sniffling. When the professor nodded silently, he stood up and ran out of the kitchen, busting the door open, bolting to Zim's house.

Zim had been removing the "Do Not Cross" caution tape from inside his house when Dib burst through the front door and slammed it shut. He was about to scold the other for slamming the door when the boy fell to ground sobbing. "Dib! Holy crud monkeys what's wrong?!" He rushed to the other's side and placed a hand on his shoulder, rubbing it gently.

Dib continued to cry, the sad details of his mother's death finally making sense to him. When he finally pulled hisself together, he began to explain to Zim everything, "When I was little, after my first disease was cured with Irkegene, my family and I got sick, all except for my mother. Doctors could only diagnose it as the very own disease that caused so much controversy and panic years back. The reason for it was because the only cure was for one of the relatives who wasn't contaminated with the disease to sacrifice their life and give those who were sick the natural core inside themselves." He paused, wiping some tears away. "Let me explain that further: each living being has their own core, and only around twenty years ago did the actual power of that natural core become known. The core contains eventing about the person, and is filled with pure positive energy. It's sorta like your Pak, I guess. Anyways, in order to cure Gaz, my father and I's diseases, my mom needed to split her natural core and place it inside of us by withdrawing her blood and removing the pieces of the core directly from it," he explained, then let out a fake laugh. "Of course, once one's core is removed there's nothing left to be done but to die. And my mother.... She died to save us." He reached over and hugged Zim's arm, tears slowly falling down his cheeks. "Luke found Mom's suicide letter and Dad showed it to me. The proof is all in there. I remember I was so anxious to read it, and now.... Now I almost wish I hadn't." Dib hugged the alien's arm tighter and sniffed.

Zim, who had been silent the last few minutes, spoke up, his voice gentle, "You're really lucky, you know that? Zim didn't have parents, not real ones like yours, just crappy robot ones and a cold, unfeeling robot arm." He became silent and comforted the boy by rubbing his back. "I mean," he continued, still rubbing Dib's back. "Your mom died to save you and your family. That's a kind of love that I could never feel or receive, and well, Zim is jealous." He stood up and looked down at the silent boy sitting on the floor, waiting for him to speak.

Dib thought over what Zim had said, then grabbed the Irken's hand. "I love you like that, Zim. I would die for you, and if you ever died there's not a doubt in my mind that I would kill myself, so...don't die." He smiled and stood up, leaning forward and placing a kiss on Zim's lips.

"Don't kill yourself for Zim, I order you not to," the alien demanded, gripping Dib's hands tight. "You're the only thing that keeps Zim alive. If you were to lose your life because of Zim, he could never forgive himself." He kissed the humun on the lips then pulled the other close for a hug. "I love you, you filthy humun," he whispered in the other's ear.

Dib wrapped his arms around the alien's smaller body and kept him close, tears of joy now beginning to form in his eyes. "I love you too, you stupid alien."

Now, I know for a fact that NOBODY likes to discuss wedding plans and details, so I'll summarize the next few weeks into a cute little paragraph for you. :)

    Eh hem. Here we go:

So Dib wanted a wedding with traditional black and white, but Zim absolutely refused to have anything of "the normal humun uncreativeness", so in the end the wedding was going to have the main color as neon green. Bridesmaids? No. Bachelor parties? No. The only things that were traditional for Dib's family was the fact that he was going to wear a tux and wait at the alter for Zim to walk down the aisle. Zim was going to wear a dress, white and lacy and frilly with a corset and neon green bows and a veil of course. And although he had argued some, he was also going to wear his contacts and wig. Gir was going to be the flower girl, but instead of throwing petals he was going to throw rubber piggies. The ring bearer was going to be mini moose, but he was ordered not to make a single 'meep' throughout the entire ceremony. Oh yeah, and the wedding ceremony was going to be at their elementary Skool, for that was the first place Zim and Dib had met. Yep, I think that's it. Any questions? Good, I'll answer them perhaps in the next chapter, I dunno.
